Love the feature of extending barrel life, while the barrel will cost a little more, the extra will be worth it in the long run.
Seems similar to what Seekins came out with recently. I’m all for innovation in a sector where it seems like we haven’t seen changes in quite a while. Wonder how long before someone figures out how to do it without single point cutting.
Gain twist barrels aren’t new. What exactly is it that Proof is doing differently?
From what I’ve seen discussed, it seems like they’re able to do a much more aggressive ratio between beginning and final twist. So not a new idea, but significantly improved. I’m sure we’ll see the proof over the coming year from people as they land with customers.
They have a new rifling profile that almost looks polygonal.
I have a 16" 6ARC AR-15 PXT barrel, and a 26" 6 ARC bolt-gun barrel. As far as accuracy or sensitivity to loading, so far they seem like any other top-quality cut-rifled barrel. I have found loads for both that don’t work stellar, and I have found several that pound knots. I think the real thing that will shake out over the next months/years is end-user feedback on barrel life. To a lesser extent, there will be a few folks out there taking advantage of PEAK alloy style cases and pushing the higher pressures. In my personal conversations with Greg Hamilton everything points to PXT holding up better for accuracy across the board at elevated pressures.
